What Happens During an Options Counseling Appointment?
With so much information on the internet about your options, it can be hard to wade through the details to find the essentials. And sometimes, even after sorting through the information, you need someone to talk to to help you process everything. This is where an options counseling appointment comes in.
An options counseling appointment is about giving you the essential, medically accurate information you need to know about each option.
If you received a positive result on an at-home pregnancy test and are wondering how to move forward, an options counseling appointment is your first step.
An options counseling appointment is broken into two parts: first, you will be given lab-quality pregnancy testing and offered a limited ultrasound to confirm your pregnancy—a nurse will go over your results.
Next, you will be paired with a peer counselor, who will present essential information about your options. Then, you will be given the space to ask questions and discuss your thoughts and feelings.
How Can I Decide What Option Is Right for Me?
Thinking through your pregnancy options can be difficult. No matter what choice you make, it will be life-changing. This is why it’s critical to ensure that you’re making a pregnancy decision for yourself without feeling coerced into choosing one option over the other.
When thinking through your options (parenting, adoption, or abortion), it can help to ask yourself the following questions:
- How might I feel if I choose each option?
- What might my life look like if I choose parenting? Adoption? Abortion?
- What do I still want to know about each option?
During an options counseling appointment, we’re happy to help you process these questions in a non-judgmental space.
You’re not alone in this. Contact us today to schedule your no-cost, confidential appointment.
